Main Purpose of the Post
We are looking for a multi-talented Membership & Projects Officer to be responsible for the development and improvement of our membership services and procedures.

You will be an energetic, organised and flexible individual, with high levels of motivation, who can fit into the friendly and collaborative culture of the office. In this fast growing organisation, you will be given responsibility from ‘day one’, so you must be confident and able to learn quickly.

Job Role

  1. Develop new membership systems and procedures, as and when required, to improve efficiency and enhance the membership experience
  2. Update the membership and office metrics monthly, and measure and report on progress towards strategic delivery goals
  3. Promote and oversee the administration associated with our education committee, the Committee of Heads of Environmental Sciences (CHES), particularly membership and the university accreditation scheme
  4. Support the delivery of projects for our sister organisation, the Institute of Air Quality Management (IAQM), and oversee their short course endorsement scheme
  5. Develop and manage the IES ambassador scheme and other marketing initiatives
  6. Provide support to members applying for Chartership and oversee the Chartership Mentoring Scheme
  7. Oversee and develop our career services for graduates and members seeking work
  8. Provide quality assurance of our application and assessment processes, establishing appropriate internal audit mechanisms
  9. Engage with our current and potential student membership, devising new methods to involve them in our work
  10. Manage and further develop the IES Membership CPD Scheme
  11. Aid the CEO in preparing papers for committee meetings
  12. Provide assistance to the CEO in delivering the strategy
  13. Set aside time each week to collaborate with other officers in delivering complex projects or assist with periods of high workload

Personal Specification
This is a multi-skilled position and we recognise that no candidate is likely to have all the desirable skills.


  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
  • Clear and confident thinker
  • Excellent time management with ability to prioritise and juggle projects and meet strict deadlines
  • Comfortable working autonomously and within a small team
  • Flexible approach with the ability to use own initiative and rapidly respond to varying stakeholder needs
  • Experience in undertaking research, writing reports / papers and developing solutions to potential problems
  • Demonstrable capability to quickly pick up new tasks and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement


  • Understanding of the environmental and/or education sector
  • Knowledge of CRM systems
  • Experience in managing complex projects with competing priorities in a professional environment
  • 1-2 years' experience working within a small team, preferably a charitable or professional body environment

About the Role
The position is full time with a salary of £24k to £26k (dependent on experience) plus 3% pension contribution. Benefits include 25 days holiday, travel loan and a personal development budget.

The initial contract will be for one year (subject to a three-month probation period) with the possibility of extending. Interviews will take place on the Friday 6th July with a view to the successful candidate starting as soon as possible.
