Technical Support Officer

Location: City of London, King William Street


Salix Finance is currently an independent not for profit company established to accelerate public sector investment in energy efficiency technologies. Salix is publicly funded by BEIS, DfE, and the Welsh and Scottish Governments and works with public sector bodies throughout the UK, helping them make progress towards achieving their carbon reduction targets. The existing client base includes Local Authorities, NHS Foundation Trusts, Higher and Further Education institutions and Emergency Services. Since 2004, Salix has worked with over 1,500 clients, more than 16,000 individual projects and is estimated to save the public sector over £2 billion of life time savings.

Job Purpose

Working as a member of the Technical Services Team, the Technical Support Officer will apply knowledge of the sustainability sector, energy efficiency technologies and principle methodologies for calculating carbon savings to review applications made for Salix funding programmes and provide advice to the Salix delivery teams and public-sector clients.

Main Responsibilities and Duties

Technical Services responsibilities

  • Support with project checking and testing for all Salix funding programmes
  • Review supporting information such as energy savings calculations, technical specifications, project costs and business cases, providing feedback on the quality of supporting evidence
  • Establish and maintain systems and processes for ensuring the effective delivery of key testing targets
  • Support building of project funding pipelines and undertake risk assessments for delivery of projects
  • Provide technical advice to the delivery, marketing and finance teams
  • Build, maintain and promote the Knowledge Sharing Area of the Salix website
  • Support marketing team with development of marketing material
  • Provide technical support at meetings with clients and/or suppliers where required
  • Support the Business Analysis and Systems Development team with analysis and research work

Key duties

  • Management of own day to day tasks
  • Conducting site visits to evaluate energy efficiency potential, provide advice on making a Salix application and supporting pipeline building
  • Attending client meetings to discuss funding opportunities
  • Engage with Salix’s funders to secure future funding opportunities
  • To develop staff knowledge through shared learning
  • Engage in staff meeting and training events
  • Prepare written reports and analysis of fund performance
  • Perform all other duties required by the role


  • £25,500 during probationary period
  • £26,000 after successful probationary period
  • Rising to £33,000 by annual increments, based on performance

Appointment process

Salix operates a probationary period for all new staff, on a fixed term 3 month probationary contract. This ensures people joining Salix can find out that the job meets their expectations and that Salix can support each member of staff in their role. Successful completion of the probationary period will lead to an offer of permanent employment contract.
