We are seeking a Site Supervisor for the delivery of aquatic engineering works including erosion control, river restoration, dam repairs and habitat enhancement. This is a full-time, permanent post. The Company operates nationally, with a higher proportion of projects in Southern and Eastern England. When working on projects situated further afield from our main base you will be required to stay away 4 nights a week with benefits.

Cain Bio-Engineering is a specialist design/build company operating from its recently expanded premises in the rural Avon valley south of Salisbury. We employ teams of design consultants/project managers and skilled river technicians within the operations team to implement our projects. The company operates throughout the UK providing design and construction services for schemes ranging from river restoration and erosion control to dam repairs and river engineering works both in tidal and fresh water environments. As a long-established environmental contractor with increasing demand for our services, we are seeking a motivated and experienced applicant to play a supervisory role on site for co-ordination in the delivery of our projects. On-going training will be provided.


To lead the day-to-day running, co-ordination of members of the operations team on construction projects and working with/reporting to Site Manager for larger projects.


Reports directly to Site Manager and/or Managing Director.



  • Responsible for Health & Safety on-site;
  • Ensuring construction conforms to all H&S legislation and updates; and
  • Preparation/updates to method statements, risk assessments and other site documentation.

Project and Programme management

  • Sourcing and allocation of labour, materials, equipment etc;
  • Supplier management; and
  • Ensure that projects are completed to satisfaction of client.

Team Supervision

  • Managing and motivating team members and successful communication of information, method statements and design drawings etc; and
  • Liaising with in-house Consultants on necessary design changes/updates.


  • Lead on developing and improving construction techniques, plant and materials; and
  • Liaise with Site Manager and Consultants/Project Manager.



  • CSCS Card (or commitment to gain this qualification)
  • 2+ years of relevant construction/operations experience;
  • Good understanding of freshwater ecology and/or construction;
  • Good communication and written skills are essential;
  • Must be physically fit, able to swim, work can involve prolonged periods on river banks and in rivers;
  • Interested in the natural environment and management;
  • Full clean driving licence;
  • Good interpersonal and team-player skills essential plus the ability to supervise and motivate construction staff;
  • Creative / innovative.


  • An environmental, engineering or science-based qualification;
  • Chainsaw NPTC CS30/31 accreditation;
  • Previous construction plant experience; and
  • SSSTS or SMSTS Site Management Safety Training Scheme would be an advantage (however training will be provided to gain this qualification).


Salary: dependent upon skills and experience, on an individual basis.
