Sustrans is the charity making it easier for people to walk and cycle, by connecting people and places, creating liveable neighbourhoods, transforming the school run and delivering a happier, healthier commute and we are seeking to fill the following key vacancy:

Active Schools Officer, Longbridge (ref: SUS2424)

£24,204 pro rata per annum

15 hours per week - contract until 30 June 2019 - based Birmingham

The exciting challenge of this role is to deliver a programme of educational and promotional activities and initiatives at 12 primary schools and one secondary school in Longbridge, on behalf of the Move More Eat Well project, with the aim of achieving increased modal shift to sustainable modes of travel to and from school. There will also be responsibility for the recruitment and support of ‘active travel champions’ amongst parents, teachers and governors.

With a good standard of education, you will have experience of working directly with children and young people and of partnership working within a community-based or environmental project. You will have experience of leading engagement activities, organising group activities and of publicising and running events. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills, the ability to motivate and enthuse others and the ability to plan and prioritise your own workload are essential, as is IT literacy. You will also have knowledge of the health benefits of active travel and be committed to the promotion of sustainable transport. DBS Enhanced Disclosure clearance is mandatory for this role.
