We need:

We are looking for a talented new team member – a Home Energy Advisor - to carry out home visits to households in Peterborough and beyond, assessing energy needs and offering tailored advice to help them stay warm, reduce their energy costs and maximise their income. This will involve ensuring residents are on the most appropriate energy tariff, providing help, advice and access to energy comparison websites and assisting them in applications for the Warm Home Discount.

You are:

  • Experienced in working with residents on fuel poverty/energy management
  • In possession of a qualification relevant to the role
  • An excellent communicator and relationship-builder
  • Demonstrably experienced in meeting challenging targets
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications
  • Willing to travel throughout Peterborough and beyond, including Rutland and South Holland – using sustainable modes of transport whenever possible
  • Adept and experienced at providing excellent customer service
  • Highly motivated, well organised and self-managing
  • A team player who is also confident working alone
  • An excellent multi-tasker

In an ideal world, you are also:

  • City and Guilds level 3 qualified in Energy Awareness or equivalent
  • Experienced in managing budgets
  • Experienced in public event management and community project management
  • Experienced in managing Funder relationships
  • Experienced in working with Registered Social Landlords
  • Experienced in providing training

Day in the Life:

  • Undertake face to face advisory visits to targeted number of households - completing fuel poverty assessments and developing individual action plans for the families of each household.
  • Ensure the home is energy efficient by reporting all maintenance issues affecting energy use (i.e. drafts, insulation and leaking taps) to housing associations, if relevant. Provide advice on how to report rogue landlords if necessary.
  • Field phone calls from tenants who call to arrange home visits or receive advice on energy efficiency and accessing available grants.
  • Ensure families are equipped with skills and tools to reduce their energy bills by providing advice on fuel management and reducing energy use.
  • Provide practical advice on available energy efficiency grants and support with grant applications if needed. Ensure families are on the most appropriate energy tariff, providing access to energy comparison websites to demonstrate to families the money they could save and support switching as appropriate.
  • Order and distribute ‘Energy Packs’ with information and goods relating to energy saving.
  • Complete energy survey with each household.
  • Provide advice and guidance on water tariffs and any other relevant utility savings. We know that by switching to a water meter, many families, particularly single parent families, can make significant financial savings.
  • Deliver energy efficiency briefings at community events to educate and embed knowledge and build community cohesion.
  • Carry out follow up surveys after initial visit with 40% of tenants (by phone where possible) to record behaviour change.
  • Provide training to housing association staff to enable them to offer basic energy efficiency advice to their tenants – the Project Officer will give housing association staff practical energy efficiency advice, including information on topics such as insulation and renewable energy. The information is designed to be cascaded down from the staff to their tenants. You will base the training on previous workshops, which have received great feedback from participants.
  • Seek opportunities to develop new/extend existing work and income streams for PECT. This could be through project development, fundraising and/or partnership working. Support other PECT business and environment initiatives.

Nitty Gritty Details:

Hours/Week: 37 hours per week
Annual leave: 24 days per annum
Work outside normal hours: Occasional evening/weekend work may be required

Salary (per annum pro rata): £22,500
Start Date: ASAP
Length of Contract: To end March 2019
