Conservation Ranger

Salary range: £24,770 to £28,180 per annum including all allowances.

The post holder will work from the Merlewood Estate Office in Caterham, Surrey and will be required to live locally in a 3-bedroom lodge that is provided for better performance of your duties.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced conservation ranger to work with us in delivering a comprehensive site management programme across our Open Spaces.

If you are interested in working with the local community to protect and conserve beautiful and historic landscapes on the fringes of Surrey and Kent via a programme of conservation management then we would love to hear from you.

You will be joining a dynamic team of professional land managers at an exciting time; not only will you have the opportunity to enhance biodiversity through the practical implementation of Countryside Stewardship grants; but also have a key role in the development of new site Management Plans which will aim to continue to provide high quality nature and heritage conservation, alongside informal recreation, across our award winning Open Spaces.

You should have excellent written and verbal communication skills which will enable you to champion our work through leading guided walks and making presentations. You should hold an appropriate qualification (minimum diploma or NVQ Level 2) in a land management discipline (or closely related) and you need to have a full driving licence.

The working week is based upon an average 37 hour week, including one in three weekends and some evening working. You will also be on an out-of-office hours duty rota.

The Merlewood Estate Office is the operational base for the West Wickham and Coulsdon Commons, 6 of the City of London’s Open Spaces. More information about these sites can be found here, including links to our existing local plans:
