Can you help us make water better for wildlife and farming?

Herefordshire Wildlife Trust are working with the Environment Agency and other partners in the Catchment of the River Lugg to improve habitats and reduce pollution, to bring the internationally protected Lugg Special Area of Conservation (SAC) into good ecological condition. An important part of this programme is working with farmers and landowners to improve riparian habitats and reduce diffuse agricultural pollution into rivers and streams.

This post is suitable for an experienced and enthusiastic farm advisor to work on behalf of the Lugg Living Landscape Steering Group and deliver a programme of works funded by the Environment Agency. The post-holder will deliver a programme of one to one farm visits to promote resource protection, reduce diffuse water pollution from agriculture, with a focus on improving riparian habitats. A capital grant program is available to part-finance on-farm works and the Farm Advisor will be expected to both administer this grant and provide guidance and assistance to landowners that want to enter Countryside Stewardship. You will also work with Trust staff and other partners in catchment areas to develop ideas and projects to improve watercourses for wildlife through habitat creation and management.

If you have a relevant degree and/or a minimum of two years’ experience of providing pollution reduction advice to farmers and landowners, a strong background in understanding water quality issues, lowland farming systems and wetland ecology, we would be very interested to hear from you.

A full driving licence and your own vehicle will be required as the post holder will often need to travel within the project area. Some weekend, Bank Holiday and evening working will also be required.

This post is part-time, commencing August 2018 until the end of March 2019 with the possibility of an extension subject to funding.
