We are seeking a site foreman/site manager for the overseeing and delivery of on site works including river restoration, aquatic habitat enhancement and fishery management. This is a full time, permanent post. The Company operates nationally and therefore requires its employees to occasionally work away from home to fulfil contracts.

Job Profile

Aquamaintain Ltd is based on the Hampshire/Surrey border in the Wey valley near Farnham. The company operates throughout the UK providing specialist consultancy and construction services for the management of freshwater environments and in particular sport fisheries. We work for a multitude of clients including charities, government bodies and private individuals. Projects can range from small-scale local restoration and maintenance contracts to nationally important river restoration schemes taking several months to complete. The successful applicant will have an opportunity to develop their understanding and skill of bioengineering, light civil engineering, construction and fishery management. On-going training will be given.

Main Purpose of Job

To plan, manage and oversee the delivery of projects including health and safety on site.

Key Duties

  • Organising tools, machinery, plant, materials and sub contractors.
  • Supervising construction activities
  • Identifying materials and equipment required to complete a job
  • Ensuring construction is carried out accurately, following plans and specifications
  • Ensure tasks are completed on time and to required quality standards
  • Responsible for on site health and safety
  • Communicating with clients
  • Training other employees
  • Reporting to management
  • Keeping site records

Position in Organisation

Reports directly to project manager/engineer & Managing Director.

Due to the varied nature of the role and tasks involved, close liaison with other members of the teams is essential.

Scope of Job

Manage the delivery of restoration schemes, fishery management and maintenance activities. Tasks include;

  • Bioengineering (faggoting, hazel spilling brushwood revetments)
  • Light civil engineering and construction (swim building, piling, bridge construction)
  • Landscaping (footpaths, hard standings, bank re-profiling)
  • Pond construction
  • Dredging
  • Product installation (floating reed beds, fish refuges, coir)
  • Planting
  • Fencing
  • Weed cutting
  • Seine netting and electrofishing
  • Fish husbandry
  • Tree work

Requirements

  • A fishery management qualification, ideally a first degree or equivalent practical experience
  • Have a excellent understanding of construction and engineering, ecology, fishery management and river restoration
  • Experienced with environmental legislation relating to working in and around the aquatic environment
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Good communicator
  • Must have good interpersonal skills and be both a good team player, and have the ability to work unsupervised
  • Experience of managing construction projects
  • Experienced with site health and safety procedures
  • Experienced in managing a small construction team
  • Experienced chain saw operator with relevant certificate
  • Experience plant operator with relevant certificates
  • Experience in using a wide range of tools and construction equipment
  • Be skilled in the use of seine nets and electrofishing equipment
  • First aider
  • Working knowledge of MS Office suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Must be physically fit and able to swim
  • Based locally or willing to relocate
  • Good time keeper
  • Full clean driving licence
  • Trailer towing licence

Remuneration

Salary: £25,000 - £35,000 PA, depending on experience and qualifications.

Benefits: Pension, fuel allowance, option of a company vehicle

Probationary period: 3 months.
