Description

The China Dialogue Trust seeks a Social Media and Digital Communications Officer to join a small, dynamic team in our London office to spearhead our social media strategy and engagement, to develop our digital communications and measure our impact. The ideal candidate should have training in social media and communications, with experience of working in a professional environment. This role will be instrumental in increasing our online presence and promoting a common understanding of China’s urgent environmental challenges and would suit an individual with a background in communications in a non-profit or campaigns organisation.

The China Dialogue Trust, a UK registered charity, promotes communication across barriers of language and culture on environment and climate change in order to inform, educate and build a global consensus for equitable and constructive solutions to urgent problems. We do this through the production, publication and dissemination of news and analysis across four websites – chinadialogue, Diálogo Chino, India Climate Dialogue and The Third Pole - each with its own thematic and geographic focus and range of publishing languages. chinadialogue also hosts the annual China Environmental Press Awards in Beijing and publishes a bi-monthly print journal.

In the coming years these websites will increasingly form the foundation of a global dialogue that offers unique insights into South-South developments and an integrated understanding of China’s global presence to an expanded global readership, along with an enhanced appreciation of the diverse perspectives of China’s partners.

The China Dialogue Trust has offices in the UK and China, with a presence in India and Brazil.

Main responsibilities:

The main purpose of this role is to engage readers and grow traffic to our websites, through social media and other outreach.

  • Work with chinadialogue staff to develop and implement a social media and digital communications strategy.
  • Undertake comprehensive and deep dive measures of our impact on social media to feed into funder reports and organisational growth strategies.
  • Support the editorial desks to promote our online presence through social media engagement major social media platforms, candidates with an understanding of China’s social media platforms would be an advantage.
  • Monitor media mentions and citations of chinadialogue’s work, alongside that of our sister sites.
  • Advise on increasing readership through newsletters and other platforms
  • Work with the editorial team to track trends and emerging stories on social media that can feed into editorial priorities

Essential skills:

  • understanding of and a commitment to the mission of the charity;
  • experience working effectively with a range of social media platforms to extend reach and impact;
  • ability to collect analytic data and produce statistic reports;
  • strong attention to detail;
  • excellent verbal, written and cross-cultural communications skills;
  • understanding of qualitative and quantitative measures and assessment of impact;
  • native or proficient level English language skills;
  • ability to work independently, as well as part of a small team.

Desirable skills:

  • ability to deliver high quality graphics and digital story-telling;
  • experience of affinity designer, infogram or other similar software;
  • an interest in digital publishing and multi-media reporting;
  • an interest in the environment and climate change.

You may be asked to perform other duties as required by the CEO and Chief Operating Officer from time to time.
