Job Purpose and Background

CDP is looking for an individual who is passionate about having a significant impact upon the investment community in driving sustainable economies and ‘greening’ financial markets. This is an opportunity to continue to build on our investor work in becoming indispensable to investors and to drive ESG and low carbon transition thinking into the mainstream financial system.

You will have overall responsibility for developing and implementing our global investor initiatives strategy. The investor initiatives team works to develop partnerships with organisations within the financial services to drive the disclosure from companies on the issues of climate change, water and deforestation leveraging investor assets of $87 Trillion. The role of CDP as an investor interface and as the sole source of standardised environmental disclosure places the organisation apart in the marketplace.

Reporting to the Director of Stakeholders, and matrix-managing a global team across Europe, North America and Asia and working collaboratively with the wider organisation, the role is critical to CDP’s position as the world’s leading environmental disclosure organisation. As the leader of this team the individual will have an internal and external profile and is expected to professionally represent the mission and culture of CDP.

Key responsibilities include:


  • Overall responsibility for the development and implementation of a global programme plan for Investors to meet the agreed objectives of the climate, water and forest thematic strategies

Investor Engagement

  • Accountable for the recruitment, maintenance and activity of the investor signatory list.
  • Working with Heads of investor teams to regularly review and upgrade investor offerings.
  • Encouraging innovation and the development of new initiatives to enhance impact and grow income from investors.
  • Conceive and co-ordinate insights and tools to support investors in better improving the disclosure and use of environmental data and to improve investor understanding of environmental decline risks.
  • Working closely with other departments to ensure developments are in-line with investor requirements.
  • Working in partnership with the CDP Insights and Impact team to initiate, deliver and maximise the impact of research which positions CDP as a thought leader, provides macro-economic insights and disclosure data analysis.

Data Sales

  • Development and implementation of a standardised data sales package and programme, maintaining and building on data sales partnerships

Team Management

  • Chairing the (quarterly) Global Investor Board with representation from key members of the investor team, regional investor heads and communications & marketing.
  • Building an effective global team to cover all elements of investor engagement, with line management responsibility for the Manager, Investor Engagement
  • Matrix management responsibility for the regional investor team i.e. Head of Investor Engagement North America, Europe, Asia Pacific and Latin America.
  • Maintaining an effective working relationship with Regional Heads (President North America, Director Europe & Director Asia Pacific and Latin America) to ensure appropriate delivery of the global project plans.


  • Accountable for budget management and the delivery of the commercial income plan (admin fees, memberships, sponsorships, product licenses and co-development of products) and any grant/project funding.
  • Working with Director of Development to highlight development funding opportunities and providing appropriate technical information for funding bids in a timely manner.

External communications

  • Working with Director of Communications to ensure consistent and appropriate messaging to investor stakeholders.
  • Outward facing engagement chairing and hosting of events, face to face sessions and collaborative working with investor organisations, providing thought leadership that positions CDP at the centre of discussions on responsible investment, integration of environmental data into mainstream investment decisions and fiduciary duty

Required skills and experience:

  • Strong experience of the financial services industry. The individual must be able to speak credibly in financial terms to investors and individuals and groups involved in financial policy.
  • Be able to balance and use quantitative and qualitative information to achieve the organisations goals. The ability to provide both the data and analysis that investors currently require and the intellectual space and support to investors and alliances developing ESG tools.
  • Experience and understanding of the investor mindset and motivations to ensure the team is aligned correctly to its market audience.
  • Strategic planning and management experience, preferably within a global context.
  • Knowledge of environmental issues, especially relating to disclosure.
  • Excellent communicator with a confident presentation and public speaking style.
  • Able to work under own initiative to develop concepts, packages and plans.
  • Ability to build and deliver commercialisation plans.

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Experience as an external advocate in a change focussed environment
  • Experience of building, developing and maintaining high performing teams.
  • Background in disclosure
  • Foreign languages – Specifically German, French, Chinese
  • Non-profit experience
  • Knowledge of the delivery of investor research and communications
  • Experience of matrix working and/or working within global virtual teams

This is a full-time role based at one of CDP’s offices of London, New York or Berlin but including international travel a limited amount of the time.

Salary and benefits: competitive NGO salary, annual discretionary bonus, 24 days’ holiday (increasing to 30), generous non-contributory pension provision, life assurance and benefits.
