Clarkson and Woods are seeking to recruit an Ecologist to join our friendly and knowledgeable team based in Somerset, to deliver wildlife surveys, mitigation and consultancy advice to our broad range of clients.

Our work takes us throughout the UK, although the majority of our work is within Somerset and the immediately surrounding counties.

About You

  • You will be a graduate with at least 2 years of project management experience within a consultancy setting, and will be able to confidently liaise with clients, statutory authorities and contractors.
  • Candidates should be fully conversant with current best practice survey methodologies for protected species and be experienced in the field carrying out such surveys.
  • Candidates must have a sound knowledge of wildlife law, particularly in relation to the planning system and the Natural England development licence process.
  • Successful candidates will be able to efficiently write technical reports based on survey findings, and be able to communicate technical detail both verbally and in writing to a range of audiences.
  • Candidates should also have experience of designing and implementing appropriate mitigation for protected species, and will be expected to demonstrate this at interview.
  • You will be expected to work as part of a team, both leading and assisting on survey work, and organising colleagues and survey kit. Candidates must be well organised, capable and bring a ‘can-do’ attitude with them
  • Applicants with EPS survey licences and experience preparing EPS mitigation licence applications for Natural England are welcomed but these skills are not a pre-requisite.

The nature of our work will require you to work overtime outside of normal office hours, such as evening and early morning bat surveys. Candidates should be physically fit and must hold a full UK driving licence. Given our rural office location your own transport is a necessity.
