About the role:

We are looking for a competent landscape manager/ green space professional to join our team working on a broad range of projects, including the development of strategies for public open spaces, green infrastructure and landscapes of national and international importance.

The position will be based in our London or Bristol office and will suit someone with a background in green space planning and management.

Our work encompasses the analysis and enhancement of open spaces located within densely populated inner cities as well as those set within the rural environment. Studies aim to conserve and enhance the cultural and natural heritage values of landscapes, whilst seeking to improve the health and wellbeing of the communities they serve and to mitigate the anticipated impacts of a changing climate.

Variety of work will be the norm, with the expectation that the successful candidate will be involved with a broad range of projects which could include:

  • Open space, play and outdoor sport studies/ strategies
  • Green infrastructure strategies and assessments
  • Natural capital assessments
  • Landscape management studies, including Conservation Management Plans and Management and Maintenance Plans
  • Landscape monitoring and contract administration
  • Planning for future landscapes and responding to climate change.

Familiarity with landscape management studies and conservation plans would be an advantage.

You will be involved in all stages of project development from tendering through to completion. The work will include carrying out site assessments and report writing.

You will be part of a friendly, award winning team of Landscape Architects and Landscape Managers, Urban Designers, Planners and Ecologists committed to high quality professional work with a strong emphasis on delivering sustainable solutions.

We are happy to discuss flexible working arrangements for this role, including part time working (minimum 30 hours per week) core hours and a degree of location flexibility.

About you:

We are seeking a creative and enthusiastic person who is able to support with the delivery of a broad range of landscape management projects and to contribute landscape management skills and experience to other landscape planning and design projects. You will be educated to degree level (2:1 and above) in landscape management, geography, planning, or a related subject; post-graduate qualification is desirable but not essential.

Your experience to date should include site-based survey and evaluation together with the production of reports and assessments. You will be able to work as part of multi-disciplinary internal and external teams.

A sound understanding of environmental legislation, policy and practice across the UK, and the interface with the planning system, would be beneficial. Good working knowledge of green space management, heritage management and conservation principles, and agri-environment schemes would be an advantage.

Excellent report writing skills and numeracy are essential. Experience and skills in the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Word and Excel are essential. Some knowledge of other relevant software packages (AutoCAD, Adobe CS, GIS etc.) would be desirable.

You will have excellent communication skills, and the ability to understand the interactions of LUC’s key areas of business.

An organised and efficient approach to completing work within tight deadlines is important, as is the ability to build and sustain effective relationships with colleagues and clients.
