Following a successful four years in business, Simlaw Ecology is looking to recruit a bright and enthusiastic Field Ecologist to help deliver protected species surveys in the southeast of England, working from our Surrey office.

The Role

The purpose of the role will be to assist with protected species field surveys. There will also be opportunities to assist in writing ecological reports.

What you get

The position will be part time, and will be paid on an hourly basis, even while training. Travel expenses in your own car will be reimbursed at £0.45 per mile and any subsistence or accommodation expenses will be covered in full.

This is an ideal position for a candidate with limited professional ecology experience, who requires training and experience in order to establish a career in Ecology. You will receive one-to-one training in all aspects of ecological consultancy, including in use of the latest survey equipment:

  • Echo Meter Touch bat detectors and Kaleidoscope Sound Analysis software;
  • Infra-red video recording; and,
  • Song Meter 4 Static bat detectors.

The Candidate

The successful candidate will have a degree in the Natural Sciences (e.g. Biology, Conservation, Biodiversity, or similar), be well organised and proactive, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

A full, clean driving licence and access to a car is preferable but not essential.

Proficiency with the basic range of Microsoft programs (e.g. Word and Excel) is important, and adaptability to more advanced IT skills, including image processing software, such as Photoshop, is highly desirable.
