Purpose

The West of England Combined Authority has successfully secured funding from the DfT’s Access Fund to provide on the ground support to passengers and prospective passengers during the launch of Bristol’s new flagship MetroBus route. The first of these to launch, between Emersons Green and Bristol City Centre, will be a step change in public transport provision. Introduction of the new route will be combined with the provision of an Integrated Ticketing System that will be introduced to coincide with readiness of the service, before being rolled out to the rest of the network.

Steer Davies Gleave, working alongside the WoE authorities, will provide specialist customer service assistance to customers using the routes, particularly in use of off-bus ticketing. Launch Support Assistants will staff key bus stops along the MetroBus route during the morning and afternoon peaks promoting the new services as well as assisting those using the new ticketing system during the initial weeks of operation.

Core Work Areas

Launch Support Assistants will be required to work at various locations along the MetroBus route between Emersons Green and the City Centre between the hours of 7am and 10am and 3pm and 8pm. A limited number of daytime shifts will also be available.

The role of the Launch Support Assistants will be to: 1) Ensure customers are aware of the need to have a ticket prior to boarding a bus; 2) Direct ticketless customers to iPoints and assist them in purchasing tickets as required; 3) Assist customers with any other queries about their journey; 4) Ensure promotion of a positive reputation of MetroBus; and 5) link to promotion support by other stakeholders e.g. bus operators, University of West of England.
