£35,058 per annum

37.5 hours per week - based in Edinburgh

Sustrans Research & Monitoring Unit provides evidence on walking and cycling that is transparent and authoritative and which influences and shapes policy, practice and behaviour and we are now seeking a creative, passionate and experienced individual to join our team of forty analysts, researchers, GIS and evaluation specialists.

This brand new role provides an exciting opportunity to support the leadership of the Unit across the UK and directly oversee our growing portfolio of work within Scotland. The range of projects covers every aspect of our work – from evaluation of behaviour change and infrastructure projects to developing innovative new research and appraisal approaches – and involves collaborative working with Sustrans Scotland colleagues and with key partners and funders.

You will work closely with the Unit’s senior management team in setting our strategic direction and you will manage local and remote Evaluation Managers. You will also work closely with the senior leadership team of Sustrans Scotland and help develop the evidence base that demonstrates the effect of investment and shapes future active travel interventions.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience of team leadership, managing monitoring and evaluation projects to a high quality and working strategically with a wide range of partners. You will be an expert in the field and be able to coach others in developing their own research and analytical skills. You will have excellent communication skills, a track record of successful business development and be able to represent Sustrans in a wide range of settings.
