Purpose of role: 

To carry out home visits to households in Peterborough and beyond, assessing energy needs and offering tailored advice to help them stay warm, reduce their energy costs and maximise their income. To ensure residents are on the most appropriate energy tariff, providing help, advice and access to energy comparison websites and assisting them in applications for the Warm Home Discount.

Based: This position will be based at PECT’s offices: The Green House, 4-6 Cowgate, Peterborough, PE1 1NA. There may be opportunities to work from home on some days.
Salary (per annum pro rata): £22,500

Hours/Week: 37 hours
Work outside normal hours: Occasional evening and weekend work may be required
Reports to: Communities Manager 

Person specification: 

You will have some experience of working with residents on fuel poverty and energy management. You will be eager to meet the challenges of this project and be happy to hit the ground running. You are the kind of person that is known for building relationships, multi-tasking and meeting deadlines. You can think on your feet and use your initiative to close a deal whilst ensuring the project is kept on track to meet targets and funder requirements. 

Essential criteria

  • City and Guilds level 3 in Energy Awareness or equivalent. 
  • Previous experience of providing energy efficiency advice. 
  • Excellent communication skills extending to colleagues, the public and key stakeholders. 
  • Demonstrable experience of meeting challenging targets. 
  • Experience working in a customer service or advisory role. 
  • Excellent word processing and IT skills, including knowledge of the Microsoft Office software package. 
  • Ability to carry out a job which involves a lot of walking and some lifting/carrying. 
  • Ability to travel throughout Peterborough and beyond, including Rutland and South Holland and willingness to use sustainable modes of transport. 
  • Excellent administration and customer service skills. 
  • Being able to self-start and self-manage. 
  • Must be a team player but also able to act independently and use own initiative. 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at one time.  


  • Experience of working with Registered Social Landlords. 
  • Understanding of the principle of good customer care. 
  • Budget management experience.
  • Experience of managing Funder relationships and the ability to write and present clear and concise reports on time. 
  • Previous experience of providing training for others. 
  • Experience of organising and running public events. 
  • Experience of providing telephone advice and follow up surveys. 
  • Project management experience of community projects.
