Wheelness – Senior Development Officer x2

Cycling UK

£26,000 pa

Paid • Full Time • Fixed Term Contract

Sectors: sustainable transport

Closing date: Monday, 30th April 2018

Cycling UK are looking for some fantastic people to join the Cycling UK team in Scotland, with a number of different vacancies across the country. The posts are all funded by Transport Scotland and you’ll be part of a growing team that engages thousands of people across Scotland.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised and motivated individual with a passion for supporting people to try cycling for everyday journeys.

WheelNess is a pilot programme that will give free access to bikes for disadvantaged individuals in Inverness, exploring with the recipients the barriers people face to cycling for everyday transport. This pilot will focus on engaging those living in the most disadvantaged areas of Inverness, have health conditions or have regular contact with their GP or another health practitioner. The pilot will have a strong evaluative focus, helping us to understand the complex social, financial and cultural choices around cycling for transport. The programme will focus on increasing health and mobility, address transport poverty and reducing isolation from services.

Purpose of Role

To work with partners in the NHS, local GPs, Highland Council and community organisations to identify and support individuals to engage in the programme, ensuring an inclusive and high quality evaluation/research process throughout.

Scope of Role

The Senior Development Officers will be the first point of contact for the programme, working closely with partners to identify participants and creating an individual support programme with them to address any barriers that participants may have. This may include working with local organisations or colleagues to set up new cycling opportunities, teaching individuals to cycle, developing and supporting individual route planning or providing other types of training. In addition, the postholders will devise and deliver a community outreach programme to encourage people to try cycling, particularly utilising the existing infrastructure in Inverness.

The Senior Development Officers should seek to work in partnership with local and national organisations to add value to existing work, avoid duplication and ensure the maximisation of resources.
