Job purpose and background:

CDP has an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual with proven self-starter skills to lead CDP’s engagement with UK cities around environmental reporting and climate action. You will be managing the annual climate change reporting process for all UK cities, ensuring an increase in the number of cities participating annually in CDP’s disclosure request, and working closely with all relevant stakeholders to improve the quality of data reporting and to increase the number of local governments setting emission reduction and renewable energy targets.

Over 500 city governments and 100 state and regional governments worldwide use CDP’s system every year to report their progress on tackling climate change. Major universities, the UNFCCC, the World Bank, the IPCC, and hundreds of other organizations rely on CDP’s city data for research and decision-making.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure continued annual participation of UK cities in CDP’s cities program, and increase the number of UK cities disclosing to CDP by 50% each year.
  • Manage the annual climate change reporting process for all participating UK cities.
  • Increase the value cities get from climate disclosure through CDP and improve the quality of data reported by providing technical support to cities around the data collection process.
  • Plan and implement a sustained engagement and communication strategy with city governments to increase climate action, with an eye to grow the number of local governments that have set an ambitious emission reduction and renewable energy target.
  • Identify and help to establish key strategic partnerships that can multiply CDP’s impact and grow the cities program. These partnerships may be with organizations representing local authorities, NGOs working with governments, government bodies, funders, development agencies, and private sector organizations;
  • Coordinate and implement UK workshops and other events
  • Present CDP’s vision for low carbon and resilient cities to a wide range of high-level audiences through round tables, webinars and other events that facilitate the successful functioning of CDP’s cities program;
  • Help to develop and extend new products and services to local governments; and
  • Enable high response rates by ensuring the provision of high-quality user support to cities.
  • The precise description and nature of your job may be varied from time to time, and you may be required to carry out other duties as necessary to meet business needs.

Required skills and experience:

  • An understanding of the issues of climate change mitigation and adaptation in cities, states and regions;
  • A track record of excellent relationship management, partnerships and public affairs work;
  • Ability to be adaptable to a fast paced and changing work environment; and hit the ground running across all key responsibilities
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to explain complex or challenging topics clearly and succinctly
  • A positive and enthusiastic team player with the ability to work under pressure
  • Politically savvy and able to demonstrate the ability to effectively interact with high level management, government officials and create partnerships with other organisations;
  • Attention to detail and commitment to achieving high standards
  • At least 3-5 years of prior work experience
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Profound MS Office skills
  • Attention to detail while being able to see the big picture

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Regular speaker at international events on deforestation or other thematic areas
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Microsoft SharePoint as well as web publishing software is advantageous
  • Proficiency in at least one additional European language

The Manager role is a full-time role based in CDP’s Central London Office reporting into the EMEA Manager. The successful candidate will work 5 days per week. You will be offered a three years fixed term contract starting as soon as possible until Summer 2021.
