Job purpose and background:

CDP has an exciting opportunity for an individual with proven self-starter skills to support the Cities, States and Regions team with the engagement of UK cities around environmental reporting and climate action. You will be involved in a variety of tasks to support the annual climate change reporting process for all UK cities. These tasks will range from engaging city governments on the importance of measuring and managing environmental performance to providing high-quality user support for local governments through the development of training material, support webinars, data analysis and more.

Over 500 city governments and 100 state and regional governments worldwide use CDP’s system every year to report their progress on tackling climate change. Major universities, the UNFCCC, the World Bank, the IPCC, and hundreds of other organizations rely on CDP’s city data for research and decision-making.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Support the annual climate change reporting process for all participating UK cities;
  • Encourage city governments to report their environmental information through CDP by:
    • Making phone calls, sending personalized emails, organizing in person meetings, webinars and other outreach modes;
    • Creating engagement and training materials and documentation for users.
  • Support the regional manager in their engagement with UK cities by:
    • Conducting analysis with the reported data;
    • Coordinating the relationship and engage with various organizations across the UK;
    • Representing CDP and the cities program at conferences, meetings, and webinars;
  • Help improve the quality of data reported by providing technical support to cities around the data collection process
  • Enable high response rates by providing high-quality user support by phone and email;
  • Support the Coordination and implementation of UK workshops and other events;
  • Manage contacts and information on CRM and ensure for the smooth running of the disclosure cycle;
  • Support the team with other relevant tasks as needed;
  • The precise description and nature of your job may be varied from time to time, and you may be required to carry out other duties as necessary to meet business needs.

Required skills and experience:

  • An understanding of the issues of climate change mitigation and adaptation in cities, states and regions;
  • Ability to be adaptable to a fast paced and changing work environment; and hit the ground running across all key responsibilities
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to explain complex or challenging topics clearly and succinctly
  • Self-motivation and an ability to take initiative
  • Very good MS Office and especially good Excel skills
  • Ability to quickly grasp and master new IT systems
  • A positive and enthusiastic team player with the ability to work under pressure
  • Attention to detail and commitment to achieving high standards
  • At least 1-2 years of prior work experience

Desirable skills and experience:

  • An interest and ability to provide excellent support to local and sub-national governments around the world
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Microsoft SharePoint as well as web publishing software is advantageous
  • Proficiency in at least one additional European language

The Senior Project Officer role is a full-time role based in CDP’s Central London Office reporting to the EMEA Manager. The successful candidate will work 5 days per week. You will be offered a three years fixed term contract starting as soon as possible until summer 2021.
