We are seeking a Technical Officer to join this busy team in High Wycombe that delivers a wide variety of functions and services to a number of internal and external customers. The town has excellent transport links, with easy access to the Chiltern Line from London taking less than 30 minutes to arrive from Marylebone. The M40 at Junction 4 is also very easily accessible with it being only 2 miles away from the offices. The successful candidate should be dedicated to the care of our customers so therefore have excellent customer care skills.

Your duties will include implementing and reviewing the Council’s Contaminated Land Strategy. In addition you will be responsible for responding to requests for service in respect of contaminated land such as conveyancing enquires or more detailed assessments of land contamination, as well as other pollution enquiries. In responding to these issues you will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills both verbally and in writing. You should be able to prioritise a busy workload against targets and deadlines and be able to work flexibly, including out of hours. In addition you should have the confidence and ability to effectively present evidence in Court.

We work closely with Development Control Officers to ensure the satisfactory amenity of residential developments. You will be responsible for drafting planning conditions relating to land contamination and assessing reports provided prior to development. These roles will require the successful applicant to prepare clear and concise reports on proposals and present their findings to Planning Inquiries as necessary.

You should preferably be a member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment or equivalent but as a minimum have two A Level’s or equivalent in scientific/technical subjects with evidence of professional development in a relevant field at appropriate level. The Council has an Approved Qualification Scheme and it may be possible to receive support for further study.

Terms and Conditions: 37 hours per week, based at the Council Offices although flexible working (including out of hours working) will be required and is supported subject to business needs. A full driving licence is required as well as an ability to work outdoors. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualification and in line with WDC Pay Policy, partially qualified will be paid accordingly.
