The Organisation

Greenpeace is a peaceful, environmental campaigning organisation which exists as our fragile
planet needs solutions, action, courage, and deserves a voice. It champions responsible and
socially just solutions including scientific and technical innovations to ensure the earth is
able to nurture life in all its diversity.

Greenpeace Japan began in 1989 and, in recent years, has focused on climate change, sustainable agriculture and defending our oceans, working with supporters, volunteers and communities throughout Japan.

The Role

Reporting to the Board and in cooperation with Greenpeace around the world, you will be at the vanguard of environmentalism in Japan. Working closely with senior management, you will have the flexibility to adapt in an environment where priorities thrive in finding creative solutions.

Being an outstanding people manager, you will inspire staff and support their development in a merit-based organisation. You will engage with a range of external stakeholders to maximise impact and transform behaviours in the corporate sector.

Skills Required

You are bilingual in verbal and written Japanese and English. You are sensitive to people, their needs and nuances. You have an excellent understanding of global and Japanese politics and society as well as knowledge on the breadth of environmental issues.

You are currently a CEO, or maybe looking for your first executive leadership opportunity, of a values-driven organisation with a successful track record in campaigning and income generation. You have a deep understanding of national, regional and global politics. You’re a visionary, able to inspire dedicated staff and you believe strongly in the core values of Greenpeace.

You have a track record of successful strategic innovation, and of mobilising public engagement with issues within social change movements such as conservation, advocacy, international development, human rights, the union movement, refugee’s, education.
