About you:

Do you want to be involved in developing and managing some of the largest newly established wetlands in the UK? Would you like to be involved in leading the RSPB’s work along one of the UK’s most iconic and populated landscapes - the Thames Estuary? Do you enjoy leading people, overcoming challenges and developing solutions?

On the north shore of the Thames Estuary, the South Essex reserves include wetland mosaics and nationally important brownfield habitats where we want to engage and inspire visitors. This is a unique opportunity to work on some of the country’s largest wetland and brownfield restoration projects and leave a permanent legacy on the shores of Essex. Along with the ability to develop fantastic habitats for nature, you will be passionate about attracting visitors and inspiring the public about wildlife.

We are looking for a capable and dynamic Senior Site Manager with exceptional people skills and landscape scale conservation knowledge to take our South Essex reserves forward. With significant experience of countryside and conservation management, you will have a passion for nature and wetlands and the capability to work in a fast and changing environment.

You will have good financial acumen and undertsanding of legal, health and safety requirements that will enable you to effectively lead your team in delivering conservation and visitor management for over 50,000 visitors per annum. You will be a natural leader, encouraging and supporting others to realise their potential and striving for continuous improvement. With strong communication skills, you will be an effective advocate for the RSPB and will be able to build effective partnerships and work with funders.

About the role:

As our South Essex Senior Site Manager you will lead our reserves operating in South Essex which spans 700ha of recently created wetlands and brownfield sites on the north bank of the Thames. Your role will be to deliver an exciting work plan to take the reserve habitats and visitor engagement forward to become flagship sites of nature conservation in the UK.

As well as managing the sites on a day to day basis, the role involves delivering and supporting others to deliver large projects. These will range from designing and building wetland schemes and restoring brownfield sites including earthworks and water control structures, to the development of visitor experience facilities including trails, hides and play areas. The team have a vision to create sites full of wildlife as well as making them a great place for people to experience nature. We need your help to make these visions a reality.
