Salary: starting from 17,000 to 19,000 depending on skills and experience.

Ecologic Consultant Ecologists are developing their habitat management services, including conservation grazing, from spring 2018. To help us do so we are looking for two assistant ecologists who have good practical conservation skills.

Based in Branscombe, East Devon, you will carry out practical conservation management, including: hedge laying/planting, fencing, woodland, grassland and heathland management, conservation grazing, livestock handling (cattle and sheep).

You will also carry out monitoring and survey work related to nature conservation management and assist with surveys as part EcoLogic’s ecological consultancy services in relation to commercial development. Survey work will include bat emergence and activity surveys, and may include other surveys such as those for birds, reptiles, amphibians (including great crested newt), dormice, badgers, mink and water voles, for example.

Both posts will be working with senior Ecologic staff and will also be working independently, together forming the nucleus of an estate team. The role may also involve working with volunteers and trainees and possibly the public to a small extent. The work will involve working outdoors in all weather conditions and some unsocial hours and weekend working.

Applicants should have substantial experience in practical conservation management. As such, this post would suit applicants who have completed at least a year in a similar role as a volunteer with one of the Wildlife Trusts, The National Trust, the RSPB or a similar organisation and who have acquired a range of practical skills and training. A strong interest in nature conservation with some survey skills and species knowledge is also required.

We will offer training to support you across all the aspects of your role and any chosen areas of specialisation. Each post will have an initial training budget of £500. We are looking for people who want to work alongside us to progress our projects for the long term and to grow their role within the company as it develops.

Closing date for applications is 5pm on Monday 12th March 2018.
Likely date for interviews will be Tuesday 27th March 2018.
