Job Purpose and Background

CDP is looking for a motivated, talented and passionate Data Analyst to join our Data Team based in our London headquarters, reporting to the Associate Director Data. The position holder will play a key role in the quality review and modeling of corporate GHG emissions and other related data points, working to enhance CDP’s ‘Full GHG Emissions Dataset’ offering. About CDP’s Data Team

The Data Team is part of the wider Impact & Insights team. Its primary remit is to improve the usability of the corporate climate change, water security and forests data and cities, states & regions data disclosed to CDP by developing and applying robust and transparent methods for data cleaning and modelling. It supplements this work with harmonized data collected from external sources and seeks to enhance accessibility for CDP’s stakeholders. Additional to this, the team produces value-adding analyses that help internal and external stakeholders better understand these vital environmental data, and make better decisions from them.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Work with the line manager and other data analysts to implement procedures for ensuring CDP data integrity and monitoring for constant improvement;
  • Undertake the systematic identification and correction of energy- and GHG emissions-related data quality issues and apply data standardization techniques to harmonize key data point responses;
  • Develop and implement methods for consuming external data and integrating them into CDP’s database, ensuring transparency through these processes;
  • Maintain and improve upon algorithms and source models to estimate corporate GHG emissions and expand upon these to incorporate other relevant data;
  • Extract, transform and load data from and into CDP’s data warehouse;
  • Facilitate the internal and external accessibility, usability and analysis of CDP’s data;
  • Determine optimal data delivery methods and formats and support in the operationalization of identified requirements;
  • Any other tasks as deemed appropriate by the line manager.

Required skills and experience:

  • Min. 2 years working experience;
  • Expert knowledge of Excel
  • Experience with R, particularly for predictive modelling;
  • Ability to document work to a high standard, maintain documentation, write reports and establish procedures;
  • Keen interest in sustainability issues and the use of data as a means to solve them, in particular climate change and/or energy issues;

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Experience in GHG accounting for sub-national or national actors;
  • Experience with databases and knowledge of T-SQL is an advantage;
  • Knowledge of other programming languages is an advantage;
  • Familiarity with modelling approaches through the lens of GHG national inventories, econometric regression models, input-output models, LCA, corporate inventories and/or other modelling approaches is an advantage;
  • Demonstrable data visualization skills, preferably using D3; and
  • Practice in scenario modeling with acquaintance with existing low-carbon scenarios, particularly how they relate to and impact sub-national actors.

This is a full-time role based at CDP’s Central London office.

Salary and benefits:

Salary will be up to 25,000 GBP per year (depending on experience), fixed-term contract of 12 months with the possibility of extension based on performance.

Annual discretionary bonus, 24 days’ holiday (increasing to 30), generous non-contributory pension provision, life assurance and others.
