MacArthur Green specialises in the provision of ornithological, ecological, hydrological, and peat consultancy services to a number of sectors including transport, transmission and renewable energy. Our work covers the terrestrial and marine environment.

MacArthur Green’s friendly and highly specialist team deliver high value work to clients including some of the largest renewable developers in the United Kingdom, and indeed internationally, such as Vattenfall, ScottishPower Renewables, Scottish and Southern Energy Renewables, RES UK & Ireland and Brookfield, with numerous onshore as well as offshore renewables projects. We also work for the Crown Estate, the Scottish Government, Scottish Natural Heritage, Natural England and the UK Government. Our non-renewables projects include the A9 dualling project and Grangemouth Flood Alleviation Scheme and water utility frameworks.
We require a motivated Senior Ornithologist who shares our values to join MacArthur Green’s specialist team.
Job Description
This post will report to our Technical Director and will include the following: 

  • Responsibility for leading on project management, coordination, quality assurance and delivery of ornithology projects. 
  • Contributing to the growth and operation of the ornithology team to ensure we maintain our reputation for delivery of high quality, robust and impartial advice. 
  • Line management. 
  • Preparation and review of Environmental Statements, Habitats Regulations Assessments and technical reports. 
  • Contribution and development of research projects. 
  • Development of the business through the introduction of new clients and maximising opportunities.  

  Essential Criteria 

  • Extensive experience and understanding of the environmental planning system in relation to the production of ecological and ornithological impact assessments. 
  • Demonstrable experience and understanding of the European Birds and Habitats Directives and methods for assessments with regards to European Designated sites. 
  • Strong people management & mentoring skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills. 
  • A flexible and proactive approach to work. 
  • Comprehensive experience of project management. 
  • The ability to produce and review high quality reports and deliver them to clients on time and to budget. 
  • Educated to higher degree level in ecology or related subject, or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of experience 
  • Strong IT skill including MS word and excel. 
  • Skills in data analysis and modelling using R, ideally for one or more of statistical analysis, spatial modelling, population modelling or other useful analytical tools. 
  • Track record in problem solving and the development and refinement of novel methods for assessing the impacts of renewable developments on wildlife. 
  • Experience of working with regulators and statutory advisors.  

MacArthur Green is based in Glasgow, however flexible working arrangements/home working will be considered.
