An exciting opportunity for an ambitious Senior/Principal Ecologist is now available at Crestwood Environmental. The Company currently provides environmental and land-planning consultancy on a wide range of projects relating to waste management, minerals, renewable energy and other land development sectors throughout the UK. The Company also provide an in-house eDNA laboratory service.

This new ecology role will encompass working on a variety of projects throughout the UK, from the Company’s offices in Wolverhampton, within a dedicated team of professionals specialising in Ecology, Landscape Architecture, Heritage, Arboriculture, Environmental Permitting and Water Management.

This permanent role is available on either a part or full-time basis, would likely suit someone of a Senior or Principal Grade. The role will include leading and undertaking habitat and species surveys, the design of mitigation schemes, and production of PEAR’s and EcIA’s, habitat management plans and input into landscape designs on a variety of projects. You will report directly to the Associate Director (Ecology) and be responsible for the day-to-day management of more junior ecology consultants and associate ecological field workers.

The successful applicant will ideally:

  • Be commercially-aware with good all round knowledge of practical and legal aspects of ecology;
  • Have experience at undertaking Extended Phase 1 Habitat and Protected Species Surveys;
  • Have excellent report-writing skills and a good working knowledge of GIS mapping packages;
  • Be a protected species survey licence holder and have experience of protected species mitigation schemes and development licence applications;
  • Be qualified to at least degree level in an environmental subject;
  • Have proven experience at managing other ecological staff and contractors on a number of projects;
  • Be a Full member of a relevant professional institution (e.g. CIEEM); and
  • Have at least 5 years’ relevant experience.

Good communication and organisation skills are essential, as are a practical approach to solving problems and proficiency at using MS Word and Excel. You should be confident and tenacious, with a flexible approach to work and able to work under pressure to complete work to given deadlines and budgets.
