Environmental Consultant – Marine Ecology

The Role

The Planning & Environment department within Natural Power is made up of a diverse range of ecologists, hydrologists and planners with considerable technical experience and expertise from having worked on renewable projects for over twelve years. We are looking to recruit an experienced Environmental Consultant – Marine Ecology into our office in Newcastle.

Duties and responsibilities associated with the role include:

  • Undertake survey work as required for delivery of projects;
  • Lead survey elements where appropriate;
  • Prepare and provide written technical reports (including EIA, Environmental management plans, and survey reports);
  • Provide input into survey recommendations, design and data analysis;
  • Assist in the contracting and management of survey vessels;
  • Provide clients, colleagues, and consultees with technical advice;
  • Plan and organise a number of concurrent projects, coordinating resources to achieve milestones;
  • Prepare Health, Safety, and Environmental documentation in support of project work;
  • Liaise with clients, subcontractors and stakeholder in the delivery of project work;
  • Support the business through provision of project financial information;

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Degree qualified to BSc level or equivalent in a marine biology/oceanography/marine technology discipline.
  • Planning offshore ecology work
  • Undertaking and/or leading marine ecology surveys at sea;
  • Understanding of the issues surrounding ecology for offshore projects;
  • Exceptional communication skills being able to convey clear and concise information in both written and verbal format to colleagues, clients and third parties.
  • Capable of producing technical reports and as a result, you will be a proficient user of Microsoft Office.
  • Due to the nature of the role, you will be expected to be self-motivated, flexible with your time and standard duties.
  • A full drivers’ licence is essential.

Desirable:

  • Degree qualified to MSc, PhD level or equivalent in marine biology/oceanography/marine technology discipline.
  • Contracting and managing vessels survey and / or survey HSSE requirements;
  • Designing offshore survey and ecology campaigns;
  • Commercial fisheries experience;
  • Statistical analysis on marine ecology data sets;
  • Project/Financial management skills;
  • Knowledge of UK and European legislation in relation to protected habitats and species;
  • Client management and business development skills;
  • Sea survival and medical offshore certificates.
  • GIS experience
  • Experience acting as offshore client representative
