The Box Moor Trust is a charity which owns, manages and protects 500 acres of pasture, wetlands, woodlands and amenity land for the benefit of its 100,000 beneficiaries in Hemel Hempstead and Bovingdon in Hertfordshire.  Much of this land has been managed for over 400 years and the Trust has close links with the history and development of the towns.  Using income from a range of commercial and residential properties we provide essential wildlife-friendly green space close to a fast expanding town and encourage everybody to enjoy it.  The Trust also contributes to the wellbeing of the community by providing facilities for sport, grants to local charities, environmental education, annual events and support to arts and music.

The Trust's lands are managed by a small estate team with the help of many volunteers.  Our rare breed cattle and sheep help us to maintain a range of special habitats.  Following a review of current workloads, the Board has decided to add a key new estate officer to its team.  This is an exciting post where you will have a real opportunity to make a difference.  It will support a continuing drive to manage the land effectively for a growing community whilst also protecting and even increasing its range of wildlife.  The overriding emphasis is to protect these special places for future generations.  If you have a wide knowledge of flora and fauna and its appropriate habitat requirements and your passion is to pass your knowledge on to others and to encourage them to respect and protect open spaces, then this could be the position for you.

Hours are 35 per week, normally 08.00 to 16.00.  Weekend working of 1 in 4 on a rota basis for which overtime will be paid.  Occasional early/late shifts will be required to cover other staff absence and seasonal workloads.  Probationary period of 6 months.  The role reports to the Estate Manager.
