About the role

In this interesting and varied role, you’ll provide valuable expertise in landscape design and green infrastructure on planning proposals, along with expert advice to colleagues and external parties including members of the public and professional agents, on the landscape and green infrastructure impact of development proposals. You’ll also work closely with our Countryside Team to ensure that ecological features are preserved and enhanced through green infrastructure proposals and have input into the continued development of the new town of Cranbrook.

In addition, you’ll also assist with investigations into breaches of planning control in relation to landscaping proposals and prepare planning policies and development plan documents including design guides, development briefs, landscape appraisals and feasibility studies.

About you

With a degree in Landscape Architecture or a related subject, you’ll have a good understanding of the planning system and experience of landscape design and conducting impact assessments. You’ll also have experience of interpreting and understanding plans and be able to identify the landscape implications of development proposals. It is desirable that you will be a Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute.

Excellent communication skills are essential and you’ll also be able to demonstrate a high level of tact and diplomacy and the ability to negotiate effectively. Attention to detail is also important to this role as is excellent organisational and time management skills.

You’ll also need a driving licence and be able to travel as required (reasonable adjustments may be possible according to the Equality Act).

East Devon District Council has decided to relocate away from its current headquarters in Sidmouth. This position will be based at Sidmouth until new offices in Honiton become operational during the latter part of 2018.
