Landscape Heritage Officer, Beacons of the Past (Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty)

Salary: Grade 2 - £27,000 per annum

Fixed term: 3.5 years

Employer and work location: The Chilterns Conservation Board, The Lodge, 90 Station Road, Chinnor, Oxon OX39 4HA

Hours: 22.5 hours per week

We are looking for a Landscape Heritage Officer to help deliver a 3.5 year Heritage Lottery Fund Beacons of the Past Project. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to help discover and conserve the Iron Age hillforts of the Chilterns and their prehistoric chalk landscapes, surveying and researching the 22 hillforts and fostering community and public involvement.

The key purpose of this role is to deliver the archaeological and heritage outputs of the project. It will involve managing the LiDAR surveys and findings, developing a programme of interpretation and public engagement, and recruiting, training and managing volunteers to help deliver the project. The postholder will work closely with (and report to) the overall project manager who is being recruited at the same time.

You will need a minimum of 3 years experience of working as a professional archaeologist in the landscape archaeology and heritage sector, a track record of training volunteers in field archaeology skills and solid experience of partnership working. The role will require a wide range of archaeological knowledge and ability to use and interpret GIS data, LiDAR and geophysical surveys.

If you have a love of archaeology and historic landscapes and are keen to help get the public more involved in discovering and caring for these special places this is an excellent opportunity.
