Overview:

We have an exciting opportunity to join the team at Pensthorpe Conservation Trust for a fixed term period of six months from April to October 2018.

This is a fabulous and unique opportunity to join the team in helping Pensthorpe deliver on our passion for nature and supporting and sustaining the development of key species in our local area working on our renowned Corncrake Release Project.

Role Profile:

The role will focus on the incubation, rearing and ultimately the release of Corncrakes whilst maintaining the highest standards of bio-security and cleanliness. As you can imagine, a significant proportion of this job is outdoors and will be undertaken in all weathers, and at times working split shifts during the evenings and early mornings as required. Onsite accommodation is provided as part of the package for this role.

Additionally, the role holder will be required to assist with general warden duties such as enclosure maintenance and visitor interaction by delivering informative talks.

The position is ideally suited to someone with a passion for wildlife and looking to build valuable experience to enhance their CV.

Person Specification:

Essential Knowledge and Experience

  • An interest in and experience of captive breeding and animal husbandry
  • Knowledge and understanding of conservation issues
  • Driving licence essential

Personal Qualities

  • Dedication to the breeding and rearing of animals in captivity
  • Ability to work alone and act on your own initiative, as required
  • Ability to work as part of a team and work flexibly with the wider Aviculture and Warden team
  • Good communication skills and the confidence to deliver talks to paying visitors to Pensthorpe
  • Willingness to learn and take instruction
  • Flexibility to work at unusual times
  • Reliability and the capacity for hard work

N.B: 40 hours per week within a roster which includes regular weekends so flexibility regarding hours is crucial
