The BES is a thriving learned society established in 1913 whose vision is a world inspired, informed and influenced by ecology. It publishes six successful journals, an ecological book series and a quarterly newsletter, the Bulletin, which is distributed to its 6,000 members worldwide.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual with excellent communication skills to assist the BES in promoting the importance and relevance of ecological science to a broad range of public groups.

We are looking for an Engagement Officer to be based in London to help us:

  • Support project working groups in developing annual objectives and business plans and in managing the delivery of the annual business plan.
  • Ensure effective budget planning and financial recording at project level.
  • Ensure effective cross committee collaboration and internal communications where appropriate.
  • Develop and deliver activities and events for a variety of audiences, supported by staff and member expertise.
  • Develop and deliver training and advice.
  • Event management including but not restricted to administrative planning and attendance, ensuring regional coverage and BES representation where appropriate.
  • Build and maintain strategic working relationships with collaborative partners.
  • Evaluate activities and events.
  • Develop and maintain webpages and websites
  • Seek out opportunities to communicate BES activities through articles in the BES Bulletin, blogs, social media and through other media channels.
