Title: Parks Participation and Communications Officer
Hours: 40 hours per week
Salary: £32,133 per annum Grade: ENS02
Location: Battersea Park

You will be a key member of the Parks Development Team working to increase our understanding of what our visitors do, and feel about, our parks, commons and playgrounds. Your work will ensure we remain responsive to the increasing demands of all our users. You will also be responsible for keeping them up to date, informed and engaged. We are looking for a team player who has strong self-motivation and the ability to work on personal initiative as well as in constructive collaboration with colleagues. You will have a passion for gathering, analysing and disseminating information.

The role is for 40 hours a week based primarily in the Parks Office in Battersea Park. You will be expected to travel around Wandsworth to visit our sites on a regular basis.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Accountable to the Executive Director (Parks & Leisure) for the development and management of parks, commons and greenspaces in line with parks’ management strategies, park management plans and contractual specifications.

Responsible to the Parks Development and Biodiversity Manager for:

  • Understanding the demands on parks, commons and greenspaces (including playgrounds and allotments) and to inform a range of solutions. You will be responsible for gathering and analysing qualitative and quantitative data and presenting this in a variety of formats as appropriate for different audiences.
  • Maintain a rotating programme of static on-site visitor counters – downloading and analysing the resultant statistical data and presenting it in a variety of reports both to management colleagues, clients and visitors.
  • Undertaking general qualitative surveys to assess visitor satisfaction and to identify areas for specific improvement. Additionally, you will work with colleagues to carry out consultation exercises on capital projects to provide an evidence base for funding and to determine public preferences.
  • Assisting colleagues with responding to enquiries from all users, collating the input of views where necessary, and providing up-to-date and relevant on-site and web-based information. Analysing topics raised to identify any persistent issues.
  • Assisting colleagues in maintaining, improving and populating information management systems such as asset audits and project priority lists.
  • In conjunction with the Parks Development Officer, develop and maintain the content of on-site information and interpretation materials.
  • Managing and using the Parks website and social media accounts, press releases and publicity materials (including our regular newsletter) in accordance with the communication strategy to ensure a strong and consistent message using innovative and informative engagement approaches.
  • Researching, producing and disseminating evidenced based reports to decision makers, funding partners, and our communities including analysis of relevant external policy, strategy and legal changes. Applying this knowledge to inform our delivery.
  • To work as part of the Parks Development Team to ensure activities are integrated across parks, commons, playgrounds and allotments; to provide cover and support for colleagues; to support volunteers, and to attend meetings (both internal and external) as required directed by the Parks Development and Biodiversity Manager.
  • To carry out any other duties commensurate with the role

PERSON SPECIFICATION

You must be able to demonstrate the following:

  1. Educated to degree level (or equivalent qualification) or appropriate experience in a directly related post.
  2. Experience of downloading and analysing statistical data and presenting it reports for a variety of audiences
  3. Proven experience in organising, and managing consultation exercises with a range of stakeholders and of organising events and activities which seek to secure the views and involvement of local communities in decision making
  4. Experience of writing items for websites, leaflets and posters and up to date knowledge and experience of using and updating items on social media
  5. Proven ability of excellent writing and presentation skills including preparation of concise analytical reports and analysis of consultation responses, to inform decision making. The ability to present data geographically using mapping programmes would be an advantage.
  6. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build working relationships with a diverse range of partners, meet the needs of different audiences, and to give constructive feedback
  7. Experience of working in parks or landscape management environment, participating in the production and delivery of management plans, parks policies and strategies.
  8. The ability to work independently using your own initiative and prioritise effectively whilst at the same time working collaboratively as part of a team on common goals and shared projects to ensure the work programme is delivered effectively.
  9. Be able to travel around Wandsworth regularly as work requires and able to work occasional additional early morning, evening and weekend hours for which time off in lieu will be given.
