Sectors: environmental education, sustainability

Closing date: Monday, 27 November 2017

A unique opportunity to lead and shape the incomparable Camas Centre based in a stunningly beautiful and remote bay on the Island of Mull off the west coast of Scotland. Camas is a residential outdoor activity centre with the purposes of delivering personal development (particularly with groups from disadvantaged backgrounds), community building, a simple lifestyle and an environmental ethos. Camas requires a committed and compassionate leader to manage and guide the development of the centre for all users and staff alike.

The Camas Centre is situated on Mull about 3 miles from Iona and about 30 minutes’ walk across beautiful (and boggy!) moorland from the road end. This lends itself to a sense of isolation, adventure and an appreciation of the simpler things in life.

We are looking to recruit a new Coordinator who will be responsible for the day to organisation and management of the Centre and, under the guidance of the Camas Committee, its strategic development. Camas has a core Resident Staff Team of up to 4 (Co-ordinator and 3 Resident Staff Team Members) and up to 7 volunteer staff during the guest season.

The successful candidate will be sympathetic to the aims and purposes of the Camas Centre and the wider Iona Community and have the ability to interpret the Iona Community's thinking on work and worship and spirituality to the staff and guests who form the community each week at the Centre.

This post is offered on a fixed term residential contract. Resident Staff receive free full board and lodgings as well as a monthly allowance of approximately £620. Other benefits include an optional contributory pension scheme, re-imbursement of travel costs at start and on completion of contract, annual kit allowance, and removal & resettlement allowances. The successful candidate will require confirmation of membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme prior to taking up this appointment.

If you have any questions about the role, please address these in the first instance to Abbi Mason, Camas Coordinator. Camascoord@iona.org.uk
