Graduate School Marketing & Communications Officer

Based normally at the Company’s site near Machynlleth, Mid Wales

Full-time: 37.5 hours per week  (Normally Monday to Friday with regular evening and occasional weekends)

The Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) is an environmental education centre demonstrating practical solutions for sustainability. The Centre covers all aspects of green living: environmental building, renewable energy, woodland management, energy efficiency and organic growing. It has a unique visitor centre that welcomes tens of thousands of visitors each year and a Graduate School offering postgraduate degrees in sustainability and adaptation, environmental architecture, sustainable food and natural resources, and renewable energy. The organisation also runs short courses and educational visits, offers venue hire and consultancy, and undertakes research in ways to reduce Britain’s environmental footprint.

The Marketing and Media Team plays a crucial role, ensuring individuals, communities and companies are aware of CAT and its principal campaigns, products and services. This includes overall brand awareness as well as promotion of key areas of CAT’s work, with specific focus on the Graduate School of the Environment, short courses, educational visits, visitor centre and venue hire.

MAIN PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB

The Graduate School Marketing & Communications Officer focuses on the promotion of the Graduate School of the Environment, aiming to boost the number of suitable applicants and increase application-to-starter conversion rates. This includes liaising directly with prospective students, organising open days and visits, attending fairs and events, and producing marketing materials for the Graduate School, including flyers, banners, engaging web content, e-newsletters and highly sharable social media content.

A key part of the role is also researching and liaising with potential ‘feeder’ institutions and relevant business contacts. This involves researching target markets, sourcing and/or compiling lists of prospects, making proactive contact and building relationships with key institutions and individuals. You’ll be aware of the needs of different audiences, and able to create messages that appeal to key ‘gatekeepers’ as well as the prospective students themselves.

The ideal candidate will have a confident, friendly, professional manner and be happy to discuss everything from the technical aspects of our renewable energy degree to the type of accommodation provided. A real people person with strong oral and written communication skills, you will love enthusing about CAT’s postgraduate courses and environmental issues in general. As good data management is crucial to this role, you will also have a keen eye for detail and be an excellent administrator.

The role will also involve promoting other areas of CAT’s work as the need arises, with different areas taking precedence at different times of year.

Applications should be made via the CAT website. Please complete the ‘Application Form’ and return to vacancy@cat.org.uk

Closing date: 9.00 am Friday 3rd November 2017
