The Open Spaces Department at the City of London believe that green spaces are good for people. We are passionate about providing opportunities that break down the barriers to accessing green space. Our Learning Programme, “Green Spaces, Learning Places” is an innovative programme of play, education and volunteering projects across our spaces which aims to get more people outdoors.

The Head of Learning is responsible for the delivery of this programme. We understand and measure our success in terms of making a positive impact on the communities who use or border our green spaces through learning activities.

For us positive impact means:

Understanding: people understand and value the importance of our green spaces

Confidence: people are confidence to use our green spaces, as part our activities or independently

Involvement: people take positive action for and get involved with our green spaces

Wellbeing: people have restorative and meaningful experiences in our open spaces

Connection: people develop a sense of place within our open spaces and pass this down through the generations

We expect the right candidate to have strong leadership skills to be able to manage a team across remote sites and provide subject matter expertise across the department. The Head of Learning will ensure that project outcomes are maximised and that high quality evaluation is undertaken to ensure the continued success and improvement of the programme. They will also need to secure external funding to support the programme and support the Business Manager in securing long term core funding. As part of the role, there are also opportunities to get involved in broader departmental and corporate activities.

Our current Head of Learning has been seconded to corporate role so this post is being recruited as a fixed term contract for an initial period of one year.

This would be a fantastic opportunity for an experienced candidate who shares our passion for green space and learning.

If you would like to know more about the role, you can contact Grace Rawnsley, Head of Learning on 020 7332 3523 or Esther Sumner, Business Manager on 020 7332 3517.
