Green Element are looking for someone with analytical and consulting skills that holds environmental issues close to their heart.

We are a small company with some big clients. We offer a job that will be colourful and varied, helping companies reduce their environmental impact. You will be working independently from client sites as well as from home, so you should be good at managing your time to fit around clients as well as your own needs.

You should have excellent analytical abilities, and the ability to work with confidence with large data sets. You should also be comfortable with meeting clients, and have strong communication skills and the ability to listen. You will be methodical, able to listen to client’s needs, and have a fantastic eye for detail. You should be able to work independently, and to be inquisitive; unafraid to question anything you think needs to be questioned. The ability to express and discuss complex issues by e-mail, skype and over the phone is essential. The role would suit a graduate with a year’s experience.

The Role

The role requires a hands-on attitude to data gathering. The role holder will be gathering data for clients’ sustainability monitoring, processing it, analysing it and presenting it back to clients with insights. This will involve downloading data from portals, requesting data from a wide range of sources; persisting with data owners and utility companies’ customer services on phone, by email, and by online chat to resolve data issues.

The role will involve:

  • Data cleansing- identifying conflicts, gaps and finding resolutions from data providers or through alternative interpretation
  • Organising, maintaining and analysing the collected data in Excel and Power BI
  • Translating the data into usable information and insights in real world situations
  • Communicating the findings to end users through Power BI, PowerPoint and other communications platforms
  • From the data and reports created, drawing conclusions and recommendations for changes to improve energy, carbon & financial savings for clients
  • Visiting clients as required, many of whom are London-based (but not all)
  • Performing research, reviews and analysis for ad hoc requests and blogs.
  • Working closely with the senior analyst, sometimes working collaboratively on Skype

Requisite skills

  1. Advanced Excel 2013 skills including the ability to manipulate large data sets (e.g. tables, cross-referencing, links, mathematical formulae, charts, Pivot Tables and Pivot Charts, importing & exporting)
    1. Tables and Names
    2. Cross-referencing and lookups
    3. Charts including combo charts
    4. Pivot Tables and Pivot Charts
    5. Mathematical formulae
    6. Importing and exporting to/from csv, pdf etc
  2. Experience and a love of data manipulation, especially ability to organise data efficiently, identify anomalies and gaps and provide solutions
  3. Tenacity and pragmatism in overcoming data-gathering and communication hurdles
  4. A commitment to sustainability policy and action and to the importance of climate change and environmental responsibility
  5. Be able to work in London regularly, approximately twice a month
  6. Desire / need to work mostly from home or remotely and the discipline and experience required to do this
  7. Excellent report-writing and PowerPoint skills; good command of language and the ability to convey information concisely
  8. Technically proficient with Windows-based applications and technology. Able to troubleshoot basic computer problems or source the help to do so
  9. Ability to work alone, to pick up systems and processes quickly from working systems, reports, databases and reports and to reproduce / improve on these, whilst confident to ask for help and pick up the phone when needed
  10. Ability to collaborate with colleagues and clients, and to listen to a diverse range of people in a way that can be translated into actions tailored to the differing requirements of each stakeholder
  11. Good project management and organisational skills.
  12. A desire to work for a small, intimate, friendly and enthusiastic organisation

Desirable skills

  1. Knowledge and experience of data visualisation applications, ideally Power BI
  2. Familiarity with collection and analysis of half hourly electricity data
  3. Understanding of benchmarking and target-setting for a range of sustainability metrics
  4. Familiarity with greenhouse gas emissions calculations and reporting
  5. Advanced Excel skills:
  6. Exporting / importing to/from Access
  7. Macros
  8. VBA
