Conservation & Wildlife

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to join our team and contribute to the upkeep of our Tayside Reserves - RSPB Loch Leven, Loch of Kinnordy and the Tay Reedbeds.

All three reserves offer unique habitats and excellent wildlife spectacles, including pink-footed geese, beavers and bearded tits, and, as such, each comes with its own challenges and rewards. RSPB Loch Leven is a visitor attraction near Kinross which has a visitor centre and a busy trail network. Loch of Kinnordy, near Kirriemuir, is a low-key visitor site providing excellent close views of wildlife, while the Tay Reedbeds, between Perth and Dundee, is a quiet refuge for reedbed specialists.

The role will primarily involve maintaining visitor facilities, reserve infrastructure and managing habitats for wildlife. With good record keeping and attention to detail you will be closely involved in ensuring key areas are well kept and meet all H&S requirements. You will work on all three reserves, carrying out a range of tasks including vegetation and hydrological management, pathwork, hide and fence maintenance. You will be responsible for using a range of equipment, as well as leading on the servicing of reserve machinery and vehicles..

An interest in wildlife and knowledge of conservation would be an advantage as you will contribute to biological recording across the reserves as required.

Working closely with the Tayside Estate Operations Manager and Warden, your regular work days will be Monday to Friday with occasional weekend work.

The post is based at Loch Leven and would require a driving licence to reach the other reserves.

Essential & Desirable Criteria as per the role profile on our site.

About RSPB

The RSPB is a charity for the conservation of birds and nature. We bring people together who love birds and other wildlife, and who want to take action to restore the health and diversity of the natural world. We carry out conservation on a large scale, protect and restore habitats, and save species from extinction. We’re living in a nature and climate emergency, and we won’t stop whilst the threats persist. We believe our work makes a real difference to the world we live in. It takes a great team to save nature and we need a wide range of skills to make it happen. As an RSPB employee, you will be helping to save nature every time you come to work. There’s never been a more important time to protect our wildlife and wild places, so we want to make sure you feel rewarded for everything you help us to achieve.
