Yorkshire Wildlife Trust is one of the UK’s fastest growing nature conservation organisations and seeks to appoint a Planning Specialist.

As we seek to significantly enhance our influence in the planning system, this is a rare opportunity for a talented and motivated individual with a background in planning to take on a role helping to create a truly sustainable Yorkshire. Using your knowledge and experience of the planning system, and in close collaboration with the Planning Ecologist, you will lead on engaging and influencing development across the County to help deliver our ambition for a nature-rich Yorkshire. You will use your understanding of the workings of the planning system to lead our efforts to maximise the likelihood that Yorkshire’s planning decisions positively contribute to nature’s recovery, to protect and enhance the Trust’s assets, strategically respond to forward planning consultations, and provide appropriate advice and support to the Trust’s own planning applications.

Direct experience of the planning system, either through an ecological or planning background, as well as natural communication skills are essential to enable you speak with authority with key stakeholders, including developers, Planning Authority staff and Councillors, and to produce influential verbal and written material for a range of audiences.

We’re looking for someone who also holds a driving licence and be willing to drive as required within Yorkshire and if you are a collaborative team player, with a strong commitment to conservation and the natural environment, this is an incredibly rewarding place to bring your career.

Please submit an up-to-date CV and supporting statement. When writing your supporting statement, please refer to the person specification within the job description, and ensure you describe your relevant knowledge, skills and experience relevant to the role. Ideally, your CV and supporting statement should be in an editable format, such as Word, so we can anonymise your documents prior to the short-listing process. Please DO NOT include any personal details (name, address etc) on your supporting statement.

Closing date: 23 February 2025, midnight
Interview date: 10 March 2025

Please note that applications received after the closing deadline may not be considered. The Trust regrets that it is unable to give feedback on unsuccessful applications.
