The Greensand Trust
The Trust has developed and established a comprehensive ranger service that looks after a range of countryside and park sites which we own or manage on behalf of local authorities and private landowners. This service aims to support high-quality countryside recreation facilities whilst conserving the special landscape, wildlife, and historic aspects of sites and increasing the public’s awareness of environmental and local countryside issues. This post is based at Ampthill Great Park where we work on behalf of Ampthill Town Council.
We are looking for an experienced and skilled individual to work with our established ranger team. Our Ranger Team supports approximately 15 officers, as well as approx. 100 practical conservation volunteers, delivering conservation / practical activities across the area.
MAIN DUTIES AND AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Carry out practical green space and park habitat and management work on sites for which the
Greensand Trust has responsibility, including;
- Manage and carry out conservation and amenity as required by the management plan.
- Litter picking and waste removal
- Maintain and repair paths/driveways and boundaries.
- Monitor and maintain Woodland, greenspaces, playgrounds and furniture.
- Carry out seasonal conservation grass and scrub management.
- Engage with visitors, local communities, parish, district and county councils and local
interest groups, to ensure the effective management of sites.
- Supervise and support the Trust’s and its client volunteers, both individuals and teams.
- Provide information to members of the public, for example, through direct conversation, notices and interpretation boards.
- Help develop the annual events programme.
- Develop and maintain links with landowners.
- Liaise with graziers and ensure all grazing adheres to the Trusts grazing policy
- Plan site management works and carry out risk assessments.
- Supervise sub-contractors as necessary and produce necessary reports and documentation.
- Carry out administration tasks, record keeping and general maintenance as required
- Supervise and share responsibility for equipment and stores.
- Enforce relevant legislation, issuing Fixed Penalty Notices where appropriate. Implement byelaws.
- To be responsible for the maintenance and simple repair of the Trusts Vehicles and powered agricultural equipment.
- To provide weekend support.
- Undertake when necessary other duties not outlined here of a similar level of responsibility.

The Greensand Trust is an independent environmental charity that works with local communities and landowners to conserve and enhance the distinctive landscape, wildlife and history of the Greensand Ridge and wider area, improving access, understanding and enjoyment for the benefit of everyone.
The Greensand Project was created with the purpose of developing opportunities for greenspace at the western end of the Greensand Ridge, in particular, the restoration of the sand quarries and river/ canal corridors.
