The Ecology Partnership are a leading independent ecological consultancy based in Leatherhead, Surrey. We pride ourselves on our friendly, fun and supportive workplace and the high-quality services we offer to our clients. Due to the companies continued success we are looking for a Senior Ecologist to join our growing team to assist with our interesting and diverse portfolio of projects. Our projects range from all sorts of exciting development projects to working with statutory bodies and biodiversity offsetting providers.

We are looking for a candidate who can assist with project management, overseeing projects from start to finish, plan and undertake habitat and protected species work whilst supporting the development of junior staff. We have a particular interest in candidates with good botanical skills to assist our experienced botanists with our increasing biodiversity net gain and condition assessment workload. However, as a company we never pigeonhole anyone into a particular specialism and there will be plenty of variety to the role for any potential candidate.

The post will offer a balance of field work and office work, with the role covering mainly the southeast of England, although we do occasionally take on project work further afield (these are usually because they are interesting!). As a company we try to keep the administrative workload of our team to a minimum to allow them to focus on undertaking high quality specialist work. As such we do not have timesheets or overbearing project management systems and prefer that our team are trusted to efficiently manage their own workload and feel invested as part of the fabric of our company.

Candidates must have:

  • 4/5 years of experience working in ecological consultancy
  • Extensive experience of producing good quality preliminary ecological appraisals
  • Experience of a wide range of protected species survey and devising effective mitigation
  • Effective project management and client liaison skills
  • A positive attitude and a keen team player
  • A full UK driving licence

Desirable:

  • Good botanical skills, ideally around FISC level 4
  • Good experience of biodiversity net gain and habitat condition assessments
  • Experience producing protected species licence applications
  • Experience of EcIAs, EIAs and / or HRAs
  • Competent in QGIS or other similar software packages
  • Hold protected species survey licence/s
  • Existing CIEEM membership.

The company will offer the successful candidate:

  • A competitive salary (£34,500k plus per annum dependent on experience)
  • Reduced working week, 4 day working week in January and 4.5 day working weeks November – December & February - March inclusive
  • Flexible working, with working from home days optional
  • Discretionary Christmas bonus
  • Assignment of own work vehicle
  • Professional membership paid for
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • 5 days external training
  • Planned socials events
  • Pension scheme as well as additional benefits.
