Who We Are
ESL were established in 1995. We are based in Lincoln and we have been delivering ecological excellence for 29 years. Our team of experienced ecologists work closely together on a diverse range of projects from small-scale barn conversions to quarries, road schemes and ports. We also work with utilities companies and provide specialist support for the Environment Agency.
We currently have a number of exciting opportunities for enthusiastic individuals to help deliver a range of projects.
The role of an Ecologist is diverse and multifaceted, and as such, we are interested in hearing from individuals with a range of skill-sets and career backgrounds, who have a passion for ecology and the natural environment in the UK.
Essential
- Relevant professional experience (at least 1-5 years’ full-time experience working in an ecological consultancy, or transferable experience from a relevant job or traineeship role in the environmental sector);
- Graduate level education in a relevant subject;
- A working knowledge of current and evolving wildlife policy and legislation;
- Excellent report writing skills;
- A high level of motivation and an organised approach to work;
- Capable of working independently and flexibly, often outdoors, and during unsociable hours;
- A full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Working knowledge of and experience using the UK Habitat Classification system;
- Be familiar with BNG principles;
- Hold a Natural England protected species survey licence or be able to demonstrate working towards a licence;
- Competent botanical identification skills;
- Experience in habitat and countryside management works;
- A working knowledge of QGIS (training will be provided);
- Hold a CSCS card;
- Have Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) membership or be able to demonstrate eligibility for membership.
For Senior Ecologist, the role will have a particular focus on leading our bat related project work, including mitigation design and licensing. You will also be involved in the full range of our ecology workflows and projects. Additional essential criteria comprise:
- Natural England Level 2 survey licence for bats;
- Experience in designing bat mitigation and applying for bat derogation licences;
- Bat call analysis;
- Interested in training to undertake advanced bat survey techniques such a mist netting, harp trapping and radio tracking;
- Excellent problem solving, project management and client liaison skills.
