We have an exciting new role for a highly organised and motivated individual to lead on the successful delivery of our Farmers, Landowners, Northern Brown Argus and Species-rich Grassland pilot Natural Capital project.

Butterfly Conservation, along with key partners and individuals including Scottish Borders Council and South of Scotland Enterprise, will be responsible for driving this pilot project.

The role itself will require working with farmers, contractors and volunteers to restore species-rich grassland to benefit Northern Brown Argus across the south of Scotland. This will include engaging with developing green finance initiatives to support sustainable land management for nature and people to enjoy for years to come.

You will need to be an excellent communicator with experience of working with landowners, volunteers and community groups. You will have recent experience of delivering similar projects within the Conservation sector including species and habitat management and a solid understanding of delivering these projects within a partnership.

If you are passionate about helping develop stronger links between rural communities and land managers, whilst providing and supporting employment and skills opportunities, specifically in the south of Scotland then we’d love to hear from you!

Butterfly Conservation is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from people from the widest possible diversity of backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. We are dedicated to encouraging a supportive and inclusive culture. We believe our work has never been more important.

Wildlife is in steep decline across the UK and over three-quarters of butterflies and two-thirds of moths are declining. We recognise it needs a great team with a wide variety of skills to tackle the problems facing butterflies, moths and the environment.

Our staff and volunteers are proud to be part of Butterfly Conservation and are dedicated to making a difference to the environment we live in. We understand the importance of maintaining and expanding our expert and valued team of people and offer a range of roles located all over the UK, from the peat bogs in Scotland to the post room in Dorset.

About Butterfly Conservation

Butterfly Conservation is a vibrant, inspiring place to work and we're passionate about connecting people to nature. We're looking to recruit passionate ‘can-do’ people who can help us to create a world where butterflies and moths thrive and can be enjoyed by everyone, forever. Butterfly Conservation is a charity dedicated to saving butterflies, moths, and our natural environment. We are a leading authority on the conservation of these beautiful creatures – key indicators of a healthy ecosystem – and we have achieved numerous successes for them locally and nationally. Our people are at the heart of what we do. Our work is only possible thanks to the commitment and dedication of our supporters, volunteers, and staff.  We employ world-class conservation scientists, making us the world’s largest research institute for butterflies and moths. Our data is used by government and policymakers to make a long-term difference for the environment.  We are actively involved in hands-on conservation throughout the UK, at every level from individual households to landscape-scale habitats, working tirelessly to make a difference for butterflies, moths, and our environment – and to benefit all wildlife and the ecosystems upon which life depends. We run projects to protect threatened species, and we are involved in conserving hundreds of other sites across the UK.
