Embark on an exciting career to protect our natural environment and enhance biodiversity.
In the past three years, we have evolved from a traditional ecological consultancy to a more diverse, vibrant natural environment consultancy with biodiversity at our heart. To achieve that, we developed new services, remodelled the leadership of the organisation and brought in deep domain experts and thought leaders in many of the disciplines that are so essential to making a positive difference.
We now find ourselves at an exciting point in the company’s history, having recently adopted a new three-year Strategic Development Plan that combines ambitious plans for growth with a firm commitment to deliver the best outcomes for nature and be a great place to work. To help deliver our strategy, we’re looking for desk-based ecologists to join our growing team of natural environmental professionals and support staff across the UK.
About the Role
At Middlemarch, we recognise that most job adverts in the ecology sector are for field-based roles and understand that not everyone is drawn to or suited for these roles. We also recognise that many skilled professionals have different needs, aspirations, or circumstances, or simply prefer a desk-based environment. If this sounds familiar, we’d love to hear from you.
The discipline of ecology is changing. Desk-based roles are more important than ever, contributing to our success and growth. We are committed to embracing change and valuing diverse talent.
We’re looking for experienced professionals in ecological consultancy who are interested in desk-based, flexible roles.
Desirable skills include:
Good interpersonal skills are essential as the role will work closely with clients and colleagues. The ability to work independently is also essential as the role will be home-based, although you will be joining a supportive culture that emphasises collaboration with colleagues.
As part of a people-focused consultancy, we are committed to supporting your personal and professional development. You’ll receive all the support you need to develop as individuals and grow your careers. We offer an initial 24 days of annual leave for full time employees, increasing to 26 after two years (applied pro rata for part time colleagues and increasing with service to a maximum of 35 at senior management level), flexible and remote working, a discretionary performance-related bonus, access to an employee assistance programme, Time Off in Lieu and paid overtime.
Middlemarch embraces diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and is committed to providing fair and equal access to opportunities for all candidates.
About Middlemarch
With a legacy of over 30 years, we are the UK's largest Wildlife Trust Consultancy (WTC) and leader in the preservation of the natural environment. We support businesses and landowners across diverse industries to protect species and habitats, champion and restore biodiversity, and combat the climate emergency. With our innovative and bespoke solutions, we empower our clients to meet their environmental obligations, achieve positive and sustainable project outcomes, and embrace opportunities to connect with the natural world.
We know that the UK is one of the world’s most nature-depleted countries. As the only UK-wide Wildlife Trust Consultancy, we aim to make a difference through landscape-scale, cross-boundary nature protection and recovery projects. This is underpinned by our team of over 120 natural environment professionals and support staff throughout the UK, helping our clients to navigate a rapidly changing legislative and policy landscape.
A purpose-led consultancy
We are a purpose-led and ethical consultancy and are proud to be the UK’s largest Wildlife Trust Consultancy (WTC), dedicated to supporting The Wildlife Trusts in their goal of driving nature’s recovery. The WTC is a network of 24 consultancies affiliated with parent Wildlife Trusts across the UK, all working to support the recovery of our much-depleted biodiversity.
Every year, we make a significant financial contribution to support the valuable work of our parent charity, Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, to bring wildlife back and help people act for nature.
