Identifying trees through the winter months, when they rarely hold any leaves or fruits, is a real art form, but surprisingly simple when you know what to look for. This course will give participants a chance to look at the majority of British native species and learn how to confidently identify them, as well as take home samples of all the common species for future reference.

The Devenish Reserve, managed by Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, contains a large range of native trees and shrubs. We will spend a couple of hours in the reserve looking at trees, and the rest of a day in a cosy village hall drinking tea and looking at twigs before an informal testing session. At the end you will have a chance to take home a full set of labelled specimens - a twig collection of your own you could only dream of possessing.

Tutor: Dominic Price is the co-author of the FSC AidGap Photographic guide to winter trees and shrubs in the winter. A free copy of the book is included in the course fee.
