Learn to use therapeutic horticulture for engagement and well-being with children and young people in a variety of different settings. Promote healthy living, self-esteem and confidence through programmes that address individual and group needs.  With an increasing concern for the mental well-being of children, social and therapeutic horticulture can promote healthy living, self-esteem and confidence.

Participants on this course will understand the theory of using social and therapeutic horticulture with children and learn practical approaches to using gardens for engagement and well-being.  Create therapeutic programmes aimed at addressing individual and group needs and explore the use of assessment in social and therapeutic horticulture with children in diverse settings.

What you will learn:

  • To understand the theory of using social and therapeutic horticulture with groups of children with additional needs
  • To explore a ‘practice approach’ to using gardens and horticulture as a vehicle for engagement and wellbeing
  • To understand and apply the principles and practices of social and therapeutic horticulture within a variety of applicable settings and to create programmes of STH aimed at addressing groups needs
  • To explore the use of assessment in social and therapeutic horticulture.
