Green Building *Subject to Validation*

Develop a deep understanding and confidence around sustainable design principles and sustainable materials, their regulatory and legal requirements and their practical use. You will also acquire a rigorous understanding of the social, practical, political, economic and environmental aspects of green building.

Get practical experience of sustainable building materials and methods and learn the theory behind the selection and use of materials, energy flows, site selection and preparation phases, waste management and project management.

Topics covered:

  • Introduction to sustainability and adaption.
  • Building design, planning and retrofitting.
  • Selection and evaluation of materials and sources.
  • Efficient use of materials and energy.
  • Attitudinal and behavioural issues of energy and materials use and control.
  • Post-occupancy evaluation of buildings performance, water and waste management.
  • Policy and planning issues.
  • Applied building project.

The MSc will end with a 60 credit individual design project comprising a technical report and critical evaluation. This provides the opportunity to complete your studies through focusing on a topic or project of your choosing.

This course is available via a range of routes: part-time/full-time; distance/on-site/blended; MSc/PGDip/PGCert.
