Sectors: conservation & wildlife, ecology

This is the standard course which is advisory for anyone wishing to start training for their dormouse license. It is held at the PTES woodland on the Isle of Wight which is managed for dormice, red squirrels and woodland bats.

We will look at the ecology of dormice, their conservation and relevant legislation. We will also consider woodland management for the species with appropriate examples in the woodland on the Reserve. In addition we will check some dormouse boxes at Briddlesford and we would expect to see dormice.

This course is an excellent first step for those wishing to get involved in dormouse conservation and it is recommended as a first step for those wishing to train for their dormouse license. It will not, however, provide you with a reference for your dormouse license application.
