Event: Rewild London Virtual Symposium
Biological Recording Company
London's biodiversity faces pressures such as habitat loss, habitat fragmentation, pollution, invasive species and climate change. Threats to wildlife are exacerbated by a growing population and the resulting planning pressures to accommodate more people within a given area.
London became the world’s first National Park City in July 2019, with the aim of creating a city where people, places and nature are better connected. Across the city, innovative projects aspire to create a landscape made up of bigger wildlife havens with improved capacity to support biodiversity that is better connected to one another. Projects range from pan-London projects to local grassroots-led initiatives.
We'll hear how various projects have engaged Londoners with local wildlife and greenspaces through conservation action. Each project case study will report on the methods undertaken, challenges faced, achievements to date and any lessons learned from the project.
The Rewild London Virtual Symposium will be hosted by Elliot Newton (Citizen Zoo) and will feature 4 speakers from projects aiming to enhance London for nature and wildlife:
- ReNaturing Hackney Marshes with Russell Miller (ReNature London)
- Ups and Downs on the Butterflied Chalklands with Mathew Frith (London Wildlife Trust)
- The Crane Valley Smarter Catchment: Partnership-led Urban River Improvements with Rob Gray (Crane Valley CIC)
- Speaker 4 to be announced
The presentations will be recorded and shared with those who booked alongside Q&A transcripts and lists of useful links via a password-protected website following the event.
