Summary

We have two exciting opportunities in the South West England Consultancy. We are looking for suitably experienced, dedicated and enthusiastic people to join us as Wildlife & Countryside Advisers at two different consultancy hubs in the region, for a two year period.

These new roles will be based at the Killerton Hub near Exeter in Devon and the Tisbury Hub in Wiltshire.

What you'll be doing

Working alongside, and under the guidance of, our other Wildlife & Countryside Advisers in the region, the Killerton-based post will providing advice and support to properties mainly in Cornwall and Devon whereas the Tisbury-based one will focus mainly on Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire. You'll be a part of a Specialist Conservation Consultancy team, who support our work in the natural environment across the region.

Your focus will be providing consultancy advice in nature conservation, including survey, monitoring and site management. There will be a particular focus on supporting a series of key projects aimed at achieving better, bigger and more joined habitat for wildlife in the South West. Helping countryside staff and volunteers set up mechanisms to track change in vegetation communities and the species they support, will be a key part of the role. You'll help to identify needs, opportunities and resources required to meet the conservation objectives outlined in our Land, Outdoors and Nature plan and will work with, and support, other colleagues and property staff, to make sure plans are integrated across the region.

Who we're looking for

In order to be successful in this role you'll need:

  • Impressive knowledge of land management for nature conservation and the ability to translate survey and monitoring data into land management guidance
  • Strong knowledge of British plant communities and animal communities and their management
  • Demonstrable experience in application of standard UK Vegetation Classification Systems and habitat monitoring
  • Good IT skills including basic knowledge of GIS
  • Consulting skills of listening, building trust and acting to deliver a high quality service and good inter-personal skills
  • Ability to build effective internal and external relationships with staff and volunteers
  • Strong coaching, training, mentoring & facilitation skills
